Kookaburra Gite Activities For Children
Anyone who has children to entertain will be spoilt for choice as there are a multitude of things to do, see and visit in the surrounding area.
For the younger children and close to home there is a park 5 minutes drive away in Olonzac with a duck pond and kids play area. Just a little further on is lake Jouarres with a safe pebble beach and picnic area, ideal for swimming and running around. There are also barbecue facilities, pedal boats and windsurfing.
If you want to venture further afield for a day of sun and sand there are several ideal beaches in Narbonne and Gruissan and also at Port Leucate 45 minutes away. There are often lots of activities going on in summer at these seaside resorts including fun fairs and old fashioned puppet shows for the kids. Also in Narbonne is the sporting complex ‘Espace Liberte’ with its kid’s paddling pools, water slides, ice-skating, bowling and outdoor Olympic swimming pool. If mum and dad want a break there is also the excellent value buffet ( under 5’s are free ) with an enclosed play area so the adults can eat in peace and still keep an eye on the children….
Nearby in the picturesque town of Bize-Minervois there is a wonderful outdoor swimming pool ideal for children and they even have a life guard on duty in summer.
For older children there is horse riding in Lezignan and Carcassonne, an outdoor adventure park in near Lac de Cavayere in Carcassonne and the Medieval City of Carcassonne with it’s torture museum, guided tours and old fashioned Merry-go-round. Bicycles can be hired at the port of Homps 5 minutes away from La Redorte and there are also boat trips up the canal. There are outdoor international go-kart tracks at Carcassonne ( just behind the airport ) and at Lavelanet ( in the Ariege about 1 hours drive ). There is also an adventure climbing park in Carcassonne at Lac de la Cavayere which is great fun for both adults and kids alike with flying foxes and climbing courses of different levels.
Windsurfing and sailing can be found at Narbonne plage, Gruissan and also Port Leucate. Only 10 minutes away is canoeing and kayaking in Puicheric.
If you would like more information about these activities the Tourist Office in Lezignan are extremely helpful and have a number of brochures in English. The Town Hall in La Redorte can also help you out although it may be a good test of your French!!
